Good-bye 2005

We’re watching “I Love 1977″ on VH1. Fantastic show. I loved Wonder Woman when it came out in syndication during the 80’s. I wanted to spin around and change into bright blue underwear with stars. I thought she had the coolest outfits. I was stupid when I was little.

For the countdown, we’re going to Manhattan for the “Little Apple” New Year Celebration. I hear it’s a good time. My boss recomended hitting a few bars to make sure we have a good time. I suppose it’s ok for folks to imagine me being a lush and not seeing me being drunk off my ass. I know the difference.

Who needs snow on Christmas Day?

LAS VEGAS INTERNATIONAL — I’m taking advantage of the free wifi while I’m waiting for my flight. It’s 65 degrees, sunny and damn windy in Sin City. On Christmas Day, temps made it up to the 70’s and I was in heaven. I met up with Mark, my parents, my Auntie Evelyn and Mita at Ate’ Gigi’s place for the holidays.

A White Christmas is overestimated. I’m happy we spent our holidays in the desert, under the sunshine and I missed this weather so much.

I want clear skies tomorrow…

Last weekend, I took this pic on our balcony. The roads sucked last weekend and I did the hermit thing for Saturday and Sunday. I only went out for the gym, food shopping and church.

Weather dudes say we’ll have sunshine and clear skies tomorrow. I hope so since I’m flying out of Kansas City and meeting my family in Vegas for the holidays. It’s suppose to be high 40’s and maybe even 50 degrees in Topeka…skit weather! Wow, that’s sad that I now accept 40 degrees as warm.

I can’t wait to see Mark tomorrow night.

A new look for the Heartland…

I finally figured out how to make a transparent gif with Graphics Converter on Mac. Hooray!

Once again, the doll on my index page changes outfits to fit the weather. It’s cold out there.

Here’s my DC Doll from my last quarter at Medill….

[pix from http://pixelpunk.fateback.com/play.html]

This is my Chicago Doll for my first quarter in grad school - damn it was cold.

When I first started my blog - I had this Cali Doll - short skirts and sunshine.

My last doll was a bride-to-be in August…

And now…in Kansas - my doll is bundled up for the cold weather and snow.

My co-worker pointed me to this awesome doll maker: the Candy Dollmaker. You need to sign up for a free account, but it’s worth it! So many pretty outfits to choose from.

Reasons…

It’s too easy for me to stay plugged into technology. I know some folks don’t have broadband cable or DSL at home, but we do. This week, it’s been too easy for me to come home to an empty apartment and flip on the TV and switch on my powerbook. I don’t like listening to the silence echoing through the empty rooms.

So, I manage to keep my mind cluttered with more websites and sitcoms after an eight hour day in from my dual flat screens at work, listening to the police scanner and checking out the three TV screens every now and then. It doesn’t sound healthy, does it?

When Mark was here, it was easy to drag him away from his laptop and hang out on the couch with only the radio to accompany our after-work play-by-play.

After I got home last night, I left messages on a few people’s voice mail and flipped on our Christmas Tree lights and KJHK on the radio. I curled up with some Joan Didion and proceeded to tune rest of the world.

Surviving the Kansas Chills…

When I complain about the cold weather (and people, 20 degrees is cold), some folks shake their heads at my daffy Cali-self. They say stuff like, we’re so used to this weather, it’s nothing to us….and stuff like that. On the other hand, other Kansans also bitch about the weather turning chilly, so I figure, I’m simply not being a wimpy Cali native when it comes to weather. If I know of other locals being chilled to the bone, that tells me it’s really cold out here. Period.

Capital City in the Snow

I saw a sneak preview of King Kong last night. I’ll have more on that later. I went with our associate producer to an Olathe theater to it. It’s about an hour away from Topeka.

It was a nice distraction since I had an empty apartment waiting for me back in the Capital City. Mark left for California on Sunday. It sucks being at home by myself. But other folks at my job are in similar situations, with their spouses in other parts of the country. I’m grateful Berkeley let’s Mark telecommute and he needs to head back to Cali to do onsite work, every now and then. We’ll make this work. It’s better than being separated for months while I was in Chicago. Yeah, we’ll make this work.

I’m planning on catching some girly flicks this week and getting putting in some more time at the gym. I’ll see him the Friday before Christmas after I fly into Vegas. That’s right, we’re doing Christmas with Freddie in Vegas.

We took a field trip to the Capital last Friday.

Let it Snow

It’s 6 below zero outside….and we got a nice dump of snow yesterday. It will probably melt by this weekend. My co-workers are taking a bet on the high temps for Sat - 40 degrees or 45 degrees.

This is the church next to our apartment building. Yesterday, it was so cold, my boogers started freezing up inside my nostrils…just like Chicago and DC. Funny how that’s a familar feeling for me. I’ve had a snowy winter for the last two years. I like looking at snow and I hate driving in it. I’m down to about 20 mph on the highway and I don’t care if that’s frustrating the more experienced drivers. I’ve already seen an abandon car on the highway median, after sliding off the slippery road.

Hello Tree

Dude…We may have a high of 16 degrees tomorrow…and it’s snowing. It’s snowing a lot. The weather dude said there’s about 4 inches of snow in Topeka this evening. I plan on leaving early for work in order to drive super-slow on the freeway.

Look at that tree hugger! Despite the chilly weather, we had fun looking for our Christmas tree on Saturday,

We met a horse on our way to the tree farm.

Vegas Bowl for Cal

Go Bears! No BCS Berth, but Cal get’s into a Bowl game…I suppose it’s better than nothing.

SFGate has this story: Vegas-bound Cal keeps its focus Tedford, senior leader tell team of work ahead.
