And we just got back from a concert in Lawrence. Mark pointed out the beautiful and fat moon, glowing orange on the horizon. We also gazed up at the stars….well, Mark did his best to look up at the stars while keeping an eye on the road. No matter how many times I’ve gazed up at the evening sky - on the 5 in California, the 15 in Nevada, the 40 through a bunch of western states or I-70 in Kansas, I never get tired of looking at those beautiful stars. I’m grateful there’s something out there that could make me feel awe and wonder. No matter how old I get, I don’t think I’ll ever take star gazing for granted.
For kicks, we listened to a little Rush Limbaugh on the way back to Topeka….Grrrr. We switched the station after about ten minutes or so.
Earlier today, we did a bbq thing at our photog’s beautiful house. 60 degrees and beautiful in Topeka! It was lovely to take advantage of the outdoor weather with a bbq. It was the first time I stepped outside without a jacket. Wow.
And this morning, we cleaned up the apartment and puppy proofed our living space. Hopefully, we can head down to the humane society and a find a new furry member to join our family. Yeah! I came up with the idea of leaving one room off limits to the puppy. So we stashed the rest of our files and toys in there. We also started coming up with design ideas for the walls. I think this place will feel even more like home with a puppy. I can’t wait!
Mark suggested we get a vaccum with a HEPA filter. It should be pretty kick-ass in cleaning up any hair the puppy will end up shedding. He tried our our new vaccum later this evening and nearly got electrocuted. EEECK! He said flames were shooting out of the wall outlet and he ended up calling 911 to make sure the port wasn’t ready to burn our apartment down. Our first 911 call in Kansas - how special. Thankfully, the firefighters determined we were in no danger of destroying the apartment. Someone from maintenance will come by on Monday, I hope.
I’m trying to stay up until 4 AM so that I could make an easier transition to my new schedule. I start 4 AM - Midnight shifts on Monday. I’ll be come familar with the before-dawn sky. I suspect I’ll feel a little exhausted.
At least I know one person who will be up before me. I’ll probably text him “hello” on my first 4 AM shift. He left our station for an overnight producer gig and we got him a cake on Friday. Good-byes suck but the news business is a small one. That makes it easier for folks to meet up again - another town, another market share.
Eventually, when we’re up and running, I’ll end up on a 11 PM - 7 AM shift. In any event, I’m tickled we’re starting up at 4 AM and doing dry runs on script writing. One step closer to going live. Yeah!
