Ah, the joy of switching to an overnight schedule.
I’ve switched to 2-11 AM shifts this week. I’ve managed to stay awake after my shift and go to bed by around 5 or so. I feel awake at work. I take care of lunch in my first hour and then I get the munchies by the 7th hour or so. Now I understand why my dad can’t wait for us to eat when he gets home from work. As soon as he gets home and drops his stuff off in the bedroom, he heads to the kitchen and fries up some dinner. I’m kinda doing the same thing now. I’ll probably be whipping up some huge breakfast meals when I get off at my regular sign-off time of 7 AM.
Mark installed thick black curtains in the bedroom. Now it’s like a cave during the daytime. Yeah! I’ll probably feel more rested if I can trick my body into thinking it’s falling asleep during evening hours. I love Mark!
Before I forget, I just uploaded the next episode of my podcast.
Last Friday night, Daisy had her first snowfall. I would have snapped a pix, but it was in the evening and everything melted away the next day. (leaving Daisy with some muddy paws to track into the apartment :P). Mark said she looked adorable in the snow. She kept trying to catch the snowflakes in her mouth. She looked happy.
Sometimes Daisy is a sweet little angel. She knows the difference between “sit” “down” and “stay.” Sometimes we can curl up on the couch and watch CNN together. At the moment, she’s taking a cat nap in the living room crate. She’s only a puppy and if we let her have full access to the apartment, a lot of stuff would be destroyed. She’s getting better with people. I think the only reason she barks loudly at strangers is that she wants to get to know them. Sometimes children can walk in front of her and she won’t lunge at them. So, we’re making some progress. Our apartment complex is like a college dorm, since so many students have taken advantage of the cheap rent. That mean’s late night weekend parties outside our bedroom window. Hell, even before the puppy, those kids kept me awake. Whoa…that made me sound like an old woman.
She likes to bite and we’re still working that out of her system. It’s a 50-50 thing.
Overall, it’s been a rewarding experience with Daisy. I miss her when I come home to an empty apartment….’cause Mark’s walking her outside. We plan on taking her to dog training next week. The timing seems right for a puppy in our lives. I signed a contract with the station, so we won’t be moving for a couple of years. We’ve talked about having a puppy for the longest time. Sure, with her background, she’s been a challenge to train and to adjust to. On the other hand, I do feel blest to have her in our lives.
I know my family eventually wants us to have a two-legged baby in our lives. I’m also grateful they understand how we’re so not ready to have kids right now. Not with college loans and other debts. And not with me just starting my broadcast career. I know some folks didn’t have the luxury to decide when it would be a good time to have children. But, we do. We decided to be responsible adults before bringing a new life into this world. After we made some headway on our debts and when we can afford a house, I think that would be a good time to plan on expanding our family one more time.
PETA released this announcement about a demonstration it was holding in Topeka at noon today.
Topeka, Kan. — Defying freezing January temperatures by stripping down to nothing but paint markings that mimic a butcher’s diagram of body parts, a PETA member will protest the meat industry under a banner that reads, “All Animals Have the Same Parts—Have a Heart, Go Vegetarian.”
Hmmm…freezing temperatures? Actually, it’s unseasonably warm in the Golden City - 58 degrees outside. I was able to walk my dog without my jacket. I suppose the PETA girl/boy didn’t get to suffer too much for his/her cause. According to the Kansas Ag department, the Sunflower State is the second biggest producer of beef in the country. I suspect it would be difficult to convince folks to go veggie or vegan here.
I toyed with the idea of eating a hamburger in front of the protest.
