Work is not bad…it’s stressful, but it’s not bad. There are times when I come home too drained to workout, cook or give a damn. There are times when I’m still revving from the rush of live TV done well. My professor once told me I’m lucky in my position - the no squeal zone…where everybody sleeps at home…and I have my office to myself.
I’m grateful for the breathing space and the clean bathrooms. Every week night, around midnight, the cleaning crew comes through and wipes everything down. They wait for me to finish my beat calls and then fire up the vaccum. All the food rotting in the trash from earlier lunch hours - all tossed out. It’s like the ear wax gets wiped out of my consciousness….you know that moment when you could see a few block shape-steps ahead to make Tetris? Yeah, it’s something like that.
Then the 5th cup of coffee sends me into the ladies room. The cleaning crew scrubs everything down and I step into this fantastic lime-drenched stall. I know my butt is the first one to use the porcelain thrones and it’s a great feeling.
“Everyone else brings a piece of Kristina home with them,” Mark said. That made me laugh.
Our cleaning people rock!
Now if it was only that easy to straighten out the rest of my life…to take a toliet scrub and flush away the rudeness and cruel words.
