Mark needs to work this weekend…but we’re squeezing in a camping trip to Perry Lake State Park. I can’t wait to use the cool camping equipment we got from our co-workers as a wedding present. Mark also picked up a sweet pair of binoculars to do some stargazing. Hopefully we won’t run in to city light pollution by our camp site.
I feel a bit drained.
a few weeks ago, I had a good lunch meeting with my boss about the show. I remember that meeting and keep a record of EVERY e-mail sent out — and use both to back-up one of the few times I put my foot down at work. I may be the gal from out-of-town….but I didn’t spend more than $70,000 on my grad school education to be treated like an idiot.
I heard an NPR interview about new college grads and their first job. A trend towards people using a permissive style of parentin has led to fresh-faced grads believing they were entitled to gresponsiblity at their first job. And that’s regardless of their experience, qualifications and maturity. In fact, the job expert went on to explain how these new employees expect their supervisors to earn their respect…and not the other way around. Because they were treated as equals in the household, they’re under the impression that they’ll be treated as equals at their first job - regardless of rank and experience. It must suck to find out that’s not the case in the real world.
Thank heavens I do have experience dealing with young college grads and their attitudes. Haas has taught me well about navigating fragile egos and crushing them when necessary to get the job done. Besides, I’ve let several things slilde - like getting to work on time, fucking up the guest schedule…things like that. Some folks should learn to follow my lead when I ask them to…instead of acting like a child.
And sadly, I’m not the only one dealing with the lack of respect…c’est la vie.
I’m going to sleep.
And then I’ll spend a night under the stars.
