Dreaming about palm trees…

Originally uploaded by queenkv.

Sigh…thinking about home puts me in a better mood. We may have snow on Wed and that puts me in a bitter mood. Snow is so overrated.

I had a doctor’s appointment today…she said I was a healthy young lady. I had a decent day at work. This weekend, I spend nearly eight hours on Saturday transferring three-plus years of blood, sweat and tears from my old blog to the new Wordpress platform. Then it looked like all that work got wiped out this morning….Sigh. Thankfully, I was able to restore it back to its Wordpress goodness. With the application install and all the tweaking, I feel like I’m working back at Haas…..but now I’m both support group and client. Sigh.

I’m flying home for the holidays…I just have to survive the next big chill and a few weeks without my honey.

WP is in the House!

Hello world! I’m taking WordPress out for spin…so far so good! I will move over my entries from movabletype and tweak the design into something more queenkv-friendly. This should be fun :)

Grrr…about the blog…

For the random people who read my blogs from time to time…

I am giving up on movabletype. Too many spammers, hackers and not enough support for free users, like me. I am in the process of installing a new blogging platform and you will see some downtime on this site…sorry about that — it can’t be avoided.

End of Fall

Candybar Doll Maker @ the Doll Palace
Welcome to my brainpickings….I’m a Cali girl trying to make a name for herself in Kansas. I’m not sure how I’m doing. I feel burnt out from sweeps, elections and anything else the Heartland wanted to throw my way. I’m looking forward to going home for the holidays. This blog features bits on the pictures, flavors, sounds and observations on Topeka, Kansas and the Midwest. Plus…I will also post musings about my trips West to family and friends.

More from La Jolla

It’s 45 degrees in Topeka…I found a frozen dandelion on my morning walk with Daisy. Mark and I are thinking about some dishes for Thanksgiving. I have to work on the holiday and I want to whip up something that I can prep a day in advance. Mark was thinking of turkey breasts…like our London Thanksgiving. Since we’re still in our sweeps period - it looks like everyone is taking care of the holiday on their own. Work is doing a lunch-time meal on that day…but I don’t think I’ll be in the mood to go back to work. So, it’s just going to be Mark, Daisy and me. An intimate family meal…more or less.

A week ago, I wore a brown bridesmaid dress with straps and sandals. It felt like 60-something degrees in La Jolla for Jennie’s and Scott’s wedding…heavenly.

It was nice to see the traditions of our parents woven into their wedding ceremony.

It’s Cold in Topeka

“Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it’s not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.” — U.S. Senator Barack Obama, 2006 commencement speech at Northwestern University.

Wow, this dude is cool. I want to make my mark in the world…but sometimes I think I’m too small for people to see me, to be relevant, to matter. I tell myself all I need to do is hang on until my next trip home. Home. Where my car wouldn’t grow a sheet of ice on the windows. Where I could were skirts and tank tops. Where I can eat more than Americana meals. Sigh.

There’s a chance for snow in Topeka tomorrow morning. Now I think snow is overrated. Give me sunshine and warm temperatures, any day. In San Diego, I told my Dad I took growing up in California for granted. I ran next to the Pacific and it made my heartache that I didn’t cherish this beautiful state when I was younger…when I could access the beaches and the ocean, whenever I wanted to. Never again.

But it’s going to be cold in Topeka….in a few hours. And that sucks.
