Several newspapers and news stations predict a record turnout on Election Day. Many predict long lines and frazzled poll workers on Nov. 4.
So today, my hubby and I decided to do the early voting thing at at the Solano County Registrar of Voters. There were at least a dozen people casting their ballots at the office. Still, we didn’t wait long and it was a worry-free voting experience.
I can only imagine how much work Kinsey and company put into this sharp, witty show. Long hours, multiple takes and a lot of time spent away from family and friends while in production.
As for myself, I’m also tickled to be working in TV news. It’s a stressful and demanding industry. At times, the work drives me crazy. Plus, I’m jealous that Daisy gets to fall asleep and wake-up with my hubby on more days of the week.
I’m also thankful that I’m making money in a career that I’ve dreamed about since I was in sixth grade. Every day is different. I wake up before dawn and I look forward to the challenge of breaking news, live shots, bizarre circumstances and anything else that’s thrown at me inside the newsroom.
Angela’s right - it’s better than answering phones for a 9-5 shift in a job I don’t care about.
It’s always a treat to visit Susan and Tom in San Francisco. This month, we explored some tasty food and some beautiful heart in Golden Gate Park.
First, we needed some fuel for our museum field trip. Susan picked up bacon donuts. Yum! Sweet, savory and filling.
We tried to visit the newly renovated California Academy of Science on a Sunday afternoon. Turns out to be a popular day for museum visitors. Before we bought tickets, one worker announced there were 5,000 people inside and all shows have been sold out. I didn’t relish the idea of sharing the space with a mob of families and tourists. So we checked out the De Young Museum instead.
It’s been almost a decade since my last visit and I was blown away by all the new upgrades. The De Young is still a beautiful, innovative space for so many different types of art. But now it’s bigger than I remember it.
The museum docents let visitors take pictures of the art without the flash. Yah! The shutterbug in me was quite pleased. I was also enjoyed seeing all the paintings of California landscapes, before modern civilization moved in. Inside the museum shop, I bought a copy of one photograph that caught my eye. It showed the Bay at around sunset, before the Golden Gate Bridge was built. Amazing!
After the De Young, we did dinner at New Eritrea on Irving Street. Sara recommended it and we had a tasty good time with the beef, chicken and lamb served up family style. Of course, it all tasted nice with a glass of Tej (honey wine).
I was tickled to see Will Ferrell back on SNL as the Commander in Chief. This opening skit for “Weekend Update Thursday” had me laughing my butt off today.
Ferrell’s impersonation will live beyond President Bush’s term. In January He’s opening a one-man act on Broadway: “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W. Bush.”

We’re at the tail-end of t-shirt weather and the trees are starting to change color in Vacaville and Sacramento. There’s Daisy peaking out behind our shed in the backyard. Folks in my newsroom say I need to check out the trees in Apple Hill. I’m also trying to visit the cornfield maze in Dixon.
It’s nice to enjoy the changing seasons without the cooler temperatures.
My hubby keeps telling me that these signs of fall do not compare to the autumn foliage in New England and other parts of the East Coast. I’ll check it out some day.
I just checked my work schedule for next month. I’m so happy to get Thanksgiving off! It’s the first time we’ll be able to have Thanksgiving dinner with my family in So Cal since I started working in TV news. Yah!
