Up in the Air

My parents have been doing a lot of traveling in the last few months.

In November, they won a cruise vacation. It sounded like a relaxing way to explore the western coast of Mexico. My dad brought back several bottles of tequila and snapped some beautiful pictures at sea. Together – they had plenty of good food, bright sunshine and warm memories.

Now – they’re somewhere over the Pacific. This journey has brought together my mom’s side of the family.

Weekend of Eating

(Side note: The job hunt, social media video projects and Google Reader distractions have pushed me behind on this blog and my little videos. I’m playing catch-up. I’m also grateful for everything that’s keeping me busy while I live a life of leisure in Cow Town)

Good times in Vacaville: We rang in the New Year at home with our friends. Our last meal of 2009: Beer-can chicken, salad, garlic bread, lasagna and plenty of sparkling wine & beer.

When we hook up – that usually means plenty of good eating and drinking. Someone said we should spend the New Years weekend eating every three hours.

Mission Accomplished.

On the first day of 2010 – we had something to satisfy meat lovers, savory cravings and sweet teeth. I loved the scent of bacon grease and sourdough pancake batter taking over my kitchen. My Daisy enjoyed watching Mark and Andrei work off the cork on the bottle of Barefoot Brut Sparkling Wine. We had to have our mimosas with the first meal of the New Year.

So Crisp. So Clear. So HD

I’m quite happy with my Kodak Zi8.

My New Favorite Toy

She’s small, light and oh so expandable with some sexy SD cards. Plus – she shoots in HD. I shot this video of my puppy with the Zi8. Daisy doesn’t need any help looking good, but with this camera, she’s gorgeous.

Weekend of Bacon

This weekend, Susan introduced me to Guanciale.
Love at first whiff.

2 Pounds of Bacon and Guincla. Getting ready for pasta goodnesss
In San Francisco, we fried up 2 pounds of porky goodness last night. The fatty smoke warmed up the kitchen and left our clothes smelling yummy.

Pasta, Mushroom and Wine
After saving all the juicy guanciale and bacon fat, Susan showed me how she did Pasta all Carbonara: raw eggs, Parmesan cheese, fried bacon bits and of course – all that rendered fat. We also baked garlic bread and sauteed some mushrooms and onions with garlic salt, thyme and butter.

It all added up to a delicious, hearty, gourmet dinner in the Mission.

Good times.

Photo Friday: Bed Time

My entry for today’s Photo Friday Theme: “Bed Time.”

Check out my puppy – up way past her bed time on the first day of 2010.
Waiting for the game to end. Poor Daisy #fb

My Daisy was trying to be a good host….waiting for us to finish playing Chinese Checkers with our friends. We were up past 2 AM – moving the pastel-colored marbles to the other side of the board.

Fog in Vacaville

Soupy skies over Cow Town. Kinda like the outlook on my future career.

Our last walk by Alamo Creek for 2009

Also fuzzy – my eyes. Today, on the Alamo Creek bike/run trail, it was pretty obvious I had weak eyes when I took off my glasses. My spectacles got a little foggy after running more than 5 miles on the trail. Without my glasses, I could barely make out colors and shapes. I certainly couldn’t drive with this eyesight. However, I could move forward on the trail without my glasses.
