Wrapping up my weekend with beer and lunch at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company.

Lovely view of the bay.

Travel Theme: World Cups

I got a kick out of watching World Cup matches in Peru. I don’t speak Spanish. However- it seemed like all the sports networks generated so much analysis, commentary and chatter on every aspect of this international game. It sounded like they talked more about these matches than what I see and hear on American football.

Also, I had my fill of drama on the pitch. It was painful to watch Germany beat Team USA. It felt bizarre to cheer on Portugal, who helped us stay in the game.

More so-called “World Cups” spotted on our trip.

The museum also has this amazing collection of ancient pottery pieces.

100 Happy Days: Bottomless Mimosas

Mimosas are always a good idea.
Bottomless mimosas are better when you don’t have to work.

I had a rare Sunday off.
Mimosas at Harry's
We spent the day doing brunch and watching World Cup games in San Francisco.

A tasty breakfast burrito at Harry’s in Pacific Heights.

During my restroom break, Netherlands scored a goal against Mexico. Mark texted me about it as I washed my hands.

Adorable Barbie art inside the ladies room.

100 Happy Days: Homecoming

A quiet homecoming to the Bay Area.
Picked up our baby. I loved seeing her curled up, within cuddling distance.

First meal in the US: California Burger from BJ’s.

Finally – a lovely fireworks show. We watched it from our backyard.

100 Happy Days: Adiós Peru

We checked out of our hotel in Lima. We had eight hours left on our last day in Peru.

I wanted to check out the changing of the guard at Palacio de Gobierno (Presidential Palace).

It was so cool to hear the band play “Carmina Burana.”

100 Happy Days: Miraflores

My last run in the Miraflores district of Lima.

I love all the mosaic art at Parque del Amor.

Cocktails at Rosa Nautica. Amazing view of surfers and waves crashing by the pier.

I ordered a Coco Loco.

Dinner at Fiesta.

My favorite dish: ceviche a la brasa. This is my favorite ceviche dish in Peru, quickly seared on corn husks. NOM.

100 Happy Days: Museo Larco

LIMA – We visited Pueblo Libre in Lima. We explored Pre-Columbian art at Museo Larco.

They had iPhones, right?

For some exhibits – it’s all about the bling.

Outside, more works of art by nature.

Another exhibition room highlighted Pre-Columbian erotic art.
Breastfeeding icons were tame compared to other works in this exhibit.

Also, I think the ladies behind the “Free the Nipple” campaign would protest having these icons categorized as “erotic” art.

Still, interesting.

100 Happy Days: Inti Raymi

LIMA – So crowded in Cusco.

Thousands showed up for Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun.

Workers at a restaurant off the plaza let us watch the festival from the rooftop. I love this fantastic view of Plaza de Armas.

100 Happy Days: Machu Picchu

CUSCO, PERU – Checking off my traveler’s bucket list: Visiting the ancient Inca site of Machu Picchu.

It’s a challenging trip to do it without a tour company. But it’s doable. We had complete freedom over where we went and how long we lingered over the ruins.
Machu Picchu also left us breathless. Climbing stone stairs gave us one heck of a cardio workout. At 7,900 feet, the site is lower than Cusco. That means it was easier for us to breathe at Machu Picchu.

One of my favorite selfies from Peru.
