I love how these flowers blossom next to the Pacific. On my birthday weekend, I enjoyed the salty sea air, mild San Diego sun and my hanging out with my family.

This is my entry for today’s Photo Friday Challenge: Bloom.

It’s so big.
And it’s in Kansas.

My entry for Photo Friday’s challenge: Heavy.
Four years ago, Cawker City’s ball of twine weighed 17,866 pounds. I suspect it’s bigger now since the city defends its title of “World’s Biggest Ball of Twine” with an annual festival that has folks adding twine to the ball.

I think I need another vacation…

Still dreaming about seafood, surf and sun in Ensenada.
My entry for today’s Photo Friday challenge: Aqua.

My entry for today’s Photo Friday Theme: “Bed Time.”
Check out my puppy – up way past her bed time on the first day of 2010.

My Daisy was trying to be a good host….waiting for us to finish playing Chinese Checkers with our friends. We were up past 2 AM – moving the pastel-colored marbles to the other side of the board.
Last month, I couldn’t imagine being able to stay-up that late. Last year – My bed time was around sundown. I started reading AP headlines, searching for AP video and listening to police chases on the scanner at around 2 AM inside the newsroom.
Now, I’m falling asleep with my hubby and puppy.
But I’m still waking up before dawn. Today – I woke up around 4 AM with too many thoughts rattling around my head. It didn’t seem right to be lounging about in bed when I could be doing something productive.
I kept paraphrasing a line from Glengarry Glen Ross: “Sleep is for closers.”
What is wrong with me?
I couldn’t answer that question. Instead – I turned on a light in the living room and wrapped myself up in my snuggie. I started reading the fourth chapter of “Wild Sheep Chase.”
I finished up the chapter.
I closed the book.
ABC – Always Be Closing

I have a lovely three-day weekend ahead of me. I’m helping my best friend tie the knot in San Francisco.
So…I have some time to show some lovin’ for Photo Friday.

The topic: “Fast Food.”
I have a healthy/gourmet twist to that theme with this BBQ Buffalo Burger. It’s from Burger Me in Truckee. It has this amazing hearty flavor and it’s all lean meat. The tangy BBQ sauce also hit all the right spots for me.

Memories of warmer weather in my home state. I snapped this shot the day after we took Jennie out to fly over Torrey Pines. Good times.

This is my submission for Photo Friday’s Alone. Thanks to a little insomnia (probably induced by my graveyard shift schedule), I was walking around the Sheraton before sunrise. I wanted to soak up the last few hours I had left in California…before I flew back to my other life Kansas. I felt so homesick. Still do.
Thank God Mark comes home tomorrow. Sleeping by myself always sucks. Daisy keeps looking for him. Sometimes she plants herself at his desk, thinking he’d sit down. Other times, she waits by the bedroom door, thinking he’ll walk out and join the pack in the living room. I miss him too.

It’s been a few years since I’ve submitted anything to a photo theme challenge…I’d like to get back into that habit. At least for today’s Photo Friday – I know all about accidental moments.
I love the fierce vibe off this bumper sticker…on a San Francisco street sign near the Asian Art Museum
