I finished up a short, 2-day week, inside the newsroom.

Our weekend morning show features some interesting guests. We interviewed folks from the State Fair last month. One of them folded up dollar bills and made these cute origami pigs for us.

My anchor and meteorologist were tickled by the pigs. I said I could have used it for some chips from a vending machine.

More Origami, originally uploaded by queenkv.

Still, the pigs were cute and they looked neat on TV after the cameras zoomed in for their close-ups.

Musical Notes

We had the Alanis Crow Project on our morning show this week. They added a sophisticated, peppy vibe to their cover songs of Alanis Morissette & Sheryl Crow. Get it now? Alanis + Crow??? Obvious, I know.

Concert on the Patio from Kris Vera-Phillips on Vimeo.

They’re performing at this weekend’s Rhythm and Ribs at Raley Field. We also sampled some of the ribs on our morning show. I love doing BBQ for breakfast.

Turning back to the music vibe…I finished episode 25 of my podcast. It’s a quirky mix of music by Deerhoof, the Killers, Flight of the Conchords and more.

Cupcakes in the Newsroom

Tiny bites of sweet goodness! A thank you for one of our reporters.

Dal Makhani in Davis

I loved the fried lentils in the super-buttery sauce. Overall, another yummy dinner at the Kathmandu Kitchen

A Dog’s View on the RNC

The Race for the White House is on!

We are less than a month away from the first Presidential debate. In the control booth, I had fun working with all our live reports from the DNC in Denver and the RNC in St. Paul…Keeping up with all the juicy sound bites and timing out my morning shows to hit the crazy satellite windows.

On the lighter side of politics: I was also taking predictions on whether Palin would wear her hair up in the tight, pinned-up locks or down, letting those lock hang freely. On the night of her big acceptance speech, the GOP Running Mate reached out to both sides of the aisle and styled her hair both up and down.

Good times.

Also good times: watching Conan O’Brien’s canine puppet correspondent report on the RNC action. I found this clip from Laughing Squid.

Dreaming of Monterey

We picked the perfect time to visit Monterey Bay, just before the labor day crowds. In fact, on our way home last Saturday, we saw bumper-to-bumper traffic on the southbound lanes of 101 and the other highways leading into Monterey.

So, we were lucky.

We loved running by the bay, breathing in that ocean air as we got our adrenaline pumping. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired as staring at these bay views by Cannery Row.

Dinner at the Yardhouse in San Diego

Checking out all the kegs at the Yardhouse. It has a great selection of draft beer. I enjoyed the local brew: Stone Arrogant Bastard

Adobo and Bacon for Breakfast

My dad cooked chicken adobo and fried up his home cured bacon for breakfast. He used soy sauce and vinegar for his bacon cure.

Dinuguan and White Rice

Family gatherings are all about the food. My dad picked up some dinuguan from Santa Fe Springs. My ninang made the tasty string beans.

Sacramento International

Waiting for takeoff. Heading down to LA and spending time with my family. Death brings us together. I know she wants us to be strong and move on.
