Go Cal!

So, my hubby got free tickets to the Cal v. Colorado State game. I love visiting my alma mater and cheering for the Bears.
It was also interesting to check out the trees left behind from the last tree sitters v police standoff. Yes, Cal left some trees standing.

Dreaming of Monterey

We picked the perfect time to visit Monterey Bay, just before the labor day crowds. In fact, on our way home last Saturday, we saw bumper-to-bumper traffic on the southbound lanes of 101 and the other highways leading into Monterey.
So, we were lucky.

We loved running by the bay, breathing in that ocean air as [...]

Dreaming of Incanto

It’s been 6 months+ since we moved back to Northern California.
I think we’ve synched up nicely with the rhythm of life in Sacramento and the Bay Area. Last month, we checked out the farm team for the Oakland A’s, the Sacramento River Cats.

Cheering on the River Cats!, originally uploaded by queenkv.

We scored [...]

The Last Days of Saturn

Viva my weekend.
I’m taking it easy for these last days of being 29-years-old.

Last month, we ended up in Lodi after the Stockton Asparagus Festival. An air-conditioned wine tasting at the Lodi Visitor’s Center helped revive us. The festival was fun but we were wiped out from walking through 100-degree weather and [...]

Pushing Myself

I clocked another 3 miles of running by Alamo Creek this morning. I needed the cardio after my deep-fried eating fest in Stockton this weekend.

Last week, I landed my axel at Vacaville Ice Sports. I felt like a rock star. I also feel like I’ve made so much progress since I [...]

More Flavors from Wine Country

Today, I went for a short run before my skating session. The last few weeks, I’ve been treating these sessions like a workout: rolling out of the house without warming up or stretching. Running about 1.25 miles helped me get more into athlete mode when I stepped on the ice this morning.
And yesterday, I ran [...]

Still Awake

It’s been a rough week inside the newsroom. Rehersals for new computers, graphics and other goodies…
Live reports from Georgia work flawlessly. And then another live interview from the other side of town is thwarted by a missing coordinate and a broken cable. C’est la frickin’ vie.
Vacaville Afternoon from Kris Vera-Phillips on Vimeo.
That could happen to [...]

Playing Hard

I’ve finished another action-pack week at work. My weekend morning shows were quite exciting with all the breaking news. On Saturday, our chopper got all that amazing flooding video. My boss kept calling back to our editors to make sure they were taping everything. Later, CNN and NBC picked up the video and used it [...]

Stumbling on New Comfort Food

I’m enjoying my Sunday with some indie rock/pop/electronica on KSPC. This weekend, we started covering our bare white walls with posters from Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. We also started hanging up pictures from our wedding day. I get all warm and fuzzy inside watching this space transform more into our home.
My vampire shift for [...]

Stormy Weather

Our newsroom kicked into high gear over a trio of storms. On Friday, we were on the air with wall-to-wall severe weather coverage for 12 hours.

This tree fell outside of our station and it freaked me out on my way to work. Before sunrise, I couldn’t see the length of it and [...]
