Big Crush

The leaves are changing color in Vacaville. I think we’ll have more vibrant colors as we get closer to winter.
I’m looking forward to a consistent schedule as my newsroom heads into November Sweeps. As soon as I get over my sore feet from my 1st 5-mile run, I plan on repeating that run in [...]

Vietnamese Sandwich

I had this tasty Bahn Min from a Vietnamese restaurant in Davis tonight. I enjoyed the combination of shredded pork, pork skin, cilantro and jalepenos. It tasted awesome after our yoga class. Davis is such a cool college town!

A Savory Autumn Meal

I could feel my mouth water while reading through this recipe for “fresh bacon”. I’m a huge fan of Top Chef and I’m love trying all things by Tom Colicchio. His recipe made it easy for people who are new to working with pork bellies, like me.

Last weekend, we had to [...]

Brunch by the Pool

This morning, I reported for shrine guardian duty at Most Pure of Heart Mary. The church has a Adoration Shrine to the Eucharist opened 24 hours, seven days a week. Basically, the church needs at least one person to keep watch over the Eucharist and the chapel. Beyond that, is up to the volunteer. I [...]

A Long Week in Topeka

By Tuesday, it felt like a long week.
Floods, tornado, displaced residents and more add up to a crazy news week in Topeka. One the phone with some network folks in Chicago, they told me: “All the news in your region. You’re hogging it all.” I told her I wouldn’t mind spreading the love.
Really.
Last night, Mark [...]

Tasting the Heartland

We eat out a lot. It’s a great way to learn more about our new home state. “Ok, dear Pinoy food bloggers, blog about your favorite streetfood - it may be something you ate outside school when you were young, or maybe even streetfood forbidden you as a kid. It may be your favorite snack while on the road, driving around the metropolis [...]

Lasang Pinoy Food

So….I have this blog entry dedicated to Filipino food in honor of Sen. Benigno “Ninoyâ€? Aquino, Jr. Stefoodie.net came up with the idea and e-mailed me to join in on the blogging event. I’ll give it a shot….

My parents worked full-time. They needed to put together simple and straight-forward meals. They were both skilled at [...]

In the land of the hairy female armpits…

BERKELEY — Working on my resume tapes at Haas. The lab is closed for the weekend. We saw people walking to graduation ceremonies. I thought they didn’t have those on Sunday, but they do.
Yesterday - we ate a lot. Each time we spent time with friends - it was either for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
In [...]

dim sum and dosai

Mark had the day off for the MLK holiday….I didn’t.
He managed to head downtown to our newsroom and we checked out the dim sum offerings in Chinatown….
DC’s Chinatown is about a half-a-block long. We found spot that had dim sum and service with a smile….this is rare for us. After our last experience with [...]
