Today – I slept in until 6:30 AM.
24 hours earlier – I was printing scripts for my director, swapping out stories for a live report at a deadly accident scene and writing teases for my 2-hour show.
Yesterday – I wrapped up my last day of work in Sacramento TV News. It’s the end of my contract and I decided to pass on my station’s offer to renew it for another 3 years. Bottom line – my hubby and I want to move to the Bay Area and start a family.
Now – see if you can spot the circles/dark smudges under my eyes. I can’t wait to get rid of those blemishes with sleep. Glorious sleep.
It was a good last day at work. I sampled a margarita from one of our guest bartenders. Overall, I thought I had 2-fun shows – packed with hard news, features and good times. I walked out of the newsroom with more pictures, best wishes and good memories.
Now, I’m marching to the beat of my own drum. I will force myself to enjoy my time off from working. Somehow. Eventually, I’ll look for some freelance gigs in TV/social media/video/PR/whatever. Finally, we’ll move to the Bay Area and start the next chapter of our lives…hopefully with a new member of our family.
On my way out of the station – I listened to “Still Alive” Portal. Mark introduced me to this adorable song at the end of the PS3 game.
It felt like a nice song for my personal end credits.
This was a triumph
I’m making a note here: huge success
It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction
Thank you for your support! Andrea, Matt, Ann, Kendall, Fally & Sara – you rock with your video/blog references.
It’s A Really Goode Job. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Hi. Sara O. here. I’m hijacking Kris’s blog to supplement the video that Andrea shot endorsing Kris for the really Goode job.
See this? It’s a post card with a date stamp of Oct. 31, 2004. It was sent to me in the Czech Republic from England by Kris, husband Mark, and Andrea, back when we were all living in Europe as part of our journalism residencies. If you look at it closely, you’ll see several stains on it.
Those are wine stains. Having traveled and visited and dined with Kris before, I can vouch that food and wine are a big part of her life. So are sharing her food and drinking experiences. I mean, they got me, a relative non-drinker, to go cavorting about Napa just this past January.
I also want to add that, sure, she’s got the multi-media thing going for her (does she ever), but don’t forget that she’s also great with personal touches. Like the post card I’m sharing with you now. I hope it’s worth a thousand words to help her land the Murphy-Goode Winery job.
Imagine cooling off with these jello shots and whipped cream. Relaxing, yes? Everything’s better with jello shots!
Apparently, my co-workers have some vivid memories of my alcoholic desserts. I worked with some amazing and talented people in Kansas. I produced some rockin’ news shows with them. My reporters knew how tor run with breaking news, grab the best video and sound and turn it all into a compelling news story.
Kendall Jones did that quite well. He’s a great writer. It was a pleasure to work with him on my shows. This is his video reference from North Carolina.
Aspera ad astra: “To the stars through difficulties.”
That’s the state motto for Kansas. It’s also the name a fantastic indie band from Lawrence. Those words resonated with me as I lived and worked in Kansas.
Kansas surprised me. For 2 years, I sampled anything the state had to offer. At a Topeka pub, I enjoyed raising my voice with a weekly Irish Sing-Along. My hubby and I won 2nd place at a Trivia Night in a Lawrence bar. I also loved sauteed meal worms served by a K-State professor. Plus, I found places, like the Cosmosphere, that inspired my inner space geek.
I love exploring the states and cities I’ve called home – from Chicago to Europe.
I want to start my next adventure in Healdsburg with A Really Goode Job.
This video reference is from Fally Afani in Kansas. I couldn’t have survived the Sunflower State without her.
My broadcast professor at Medill introduced himself as the voice inside Tom Brokaw’s head. He explained that communicating with his anchor during a live show was critical when he was an executive producer at NBC News.
He showed me what it takes to make it in broadcast news. Now I’m following in his footsteps.
In the booth, I saw some breaking news on the sentencing of Bernie Madoff. Before we moved on to the next story, I told my anchors what was going on in NYC through their IFBs. 30 seconds later, my anchors updated the story on live TV.
As a news producer, I take care of the stories, video, live reports and the focus of the news show. Most importantly, I’m telling other people’s stories. Breaking news, community events to the world’s ugliest dog – I get to write about what’s going on in our viewing area and the rest of the world.
I know this can translate into A Really Goode Job.
One of my news anchors sums it up nicely in this video reference. Matt Brennan is living in LA now.
Over the weekend, I sent in my resume for Murphy-Goode’sWine Country Lifestyle Correspondent position.
Exciting!
So, you’ve seen why I think I’d rock this dream job.
Now, I want to share some of my professional and personal references for this job in Sonoma County.
This is from Andrea James in Seattle, Washington. We graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
I enjoyed blogging and v-logging about wine and the job hunt. Golly, it’s been a few years since I did any on-camera work! Here’s a taste of some of my entries.
