100 Happy Days: Cooking

Cooking makes my kitchen smell amazing! I also like how it makes the kitchen the warmest spot in the house.

It was lovely to finish up my workout and watch my hubby take care of dinner.

Mark said the Barefoot Contessa’s bolognese recipe was easy to follow. I also liked the flavor combo of red wine, meat and tomatoes.

100 Happy Days: Healthy Living

Healthy living and feeling stronger.
I used a 12-pound medicine ball for sit-ups and Russian twists during today’s O2 Bodyfit class. It was a tough circuit. However, I could handle the weight.

Last year, I used a 6-pound ball.

After class, I made vegetable quiche cups with green bell peppers, mushrooms, zucchini and red onions. I added Pepper Plant hot sauce.

I used a recipe from “The Kitchen is My Playground.”

Also – I love having leftover quiche cups!

100 Happy Days: Pasta

Pasta inspiration from Extra Virgin. Debi Mazar’s family looked like they enjoyed making fresh pasta.

Plus – it looked like this family had the solution to stop noodles from sticking together: Semolina.

I was amazed by this pasta dough. It felt like we finally hit the perfect ratio of eggs to flour. I think this is our best batch of pasta. Ever.

We served it with Gabriele’s red sauce and leftover zucchini cheese balls.

100 Happy Days: Dinner

Dinner and a documentary on the making of “The Prisoner.”


We made zucchini meatballs. David Rocco’s recipe didn’t have any meat. I ended up calling them zucchini cheese balls.

I also made garlic mashed white beans. I used Nigella Lawson’s recipe and added lime zest.

100 Happy Days: Salsiccie e Fagioli

The kitchen is one of my favorite rooms in our house. I love the smell of meat and vegetables simmering on the stove.

David Rocco’s Dolce Vita helps me soothe my travel bug blues. His life and family in Florence look fabulous. Today, I made Salsiccie e Fagioli from his Spring Break episode.

Playing on Pandora Radio: “The Way You Look Tonight.”
That made me think of the last time I danced to that song with Mark. It was the last dance at a wedding reception at Mark Hopkins in San Francisco.

“…wrinkle your nose..”
I suppose we also like this song because of it’s connection to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I always think of it as Kira and Odo’s song.

100 Happy Days: Cheese

Call me a mouse.
Nibbling on cheese makes me happy. I loved snacking on cheese slices and bread when I was a kid. I didn’t need it melted into a grilled cheese sandwich. I just wanted cheese and white bread.

We picked up this Mitica Campo de Montalban from a Whole Foods in San Rafael. It’s made from cow and sheep milk.

100 Happy Days: Fried Egg Sandwich

I love fried egg sandwiches.

Lately, I like adding shiitake mushrooms and avocado.

It was a pleasure to fry mushrooms and eggs. Then I assembled my little sandwich over garlic sourdough slices.

Finally, eating in front of the TV. Bliss.

100 Happy Days: Clean Eating

Under one of the tents at Serramonte, one worker weighed my zucchini. I paid him. Then he counted out change.
“Thank you,” I chimed.
“See you next week,” he replied.

Cherry Tomatoes

Vendors at the Daly City Farmers Market are starting to remember me.

Our Peru trip is just around the corner. We spent April and May indulging in food and drinks. It feels like a lovely time to give my body a break with clean eating.

After my market trip, I made roasted zucchini and tomatoes with whole wheat linguini. I modified a recipe by Martha Stewart. I left out the salt, olive oil and cheese. I added chopped olives. I served it with salmon, grilled on cedar planks. My hubby left out salt and pepper on the fish. It tasted yummy!

Overall – not bad.
Mark liked it for dinner.
