bush declared war – iraq is getting bombed – and i’m still at work….it doesn’t seem right
everyone has a different way of reacting to this war. i had to open the lab today and it was empty to about 8:30 am….which is unusual. typically we have folks scrambling to put the finishing touches – a final calculation, one more copy to print out, a quick check on email – before dashing to class. it was totally empty – a ghost town.
ah…yes, this brings back memories of prop 209 and the struggle to save ethnic studies – sfgate reports that 200 people stage a sit-in at sproul hall, to protest the war. i remember when anti-prop 209 folks linked together for nonviolent resistance against ucpd, inside sproul hall. from some pics – it looks like some officers were spraying something pretty nasty into the eyes of student activists.
after lunch at smart alec’s – we walked up telegraph. at the corner of telegraph and bancroft – we found a dozen of police milling outside of the bath and body store. then we heard the faint chanting from sproul plaza. students and community members carrying on the Cal tradition of vocal dissent against an injust war.
another fine Cal tradition is the media circus that descends onto campus – camera people shooting any student screaming until his/her veins start bulging out of their necks. one funny thing to note – a kron 4 news van was parked across the street from Bancroft clothing – under the kron 4 logo you can read:
kron 4 news (logo)
lies
– which was spraypainted underneath.
i wonder why
