wow. I feel so drained….but in a good way.
Orientation started off in typical fashion – went over names, city of orgin and stations/papers we’re covering.
Then my professor told me I should see if I could get an interview with Obama – since he’s swearing in tomorrow. I managed to get a press secretary on the phone in the middle of lunch….and I had to let half of my beef and cheddar wrap go to waste. It was tasty.
While the other students picked up their creditials on the Capitol Hill – I raced through security checks and elevators to make it to Obama’s press conference. This is my first day in the news room – it felt like I didn’t know what I was doing. On top of that, a dozen news crews prowled through his temporary basement offices. It was a circus. An amazing guy when he talks – but the news crews were quite agressive in their questions and shooting. We almost got swallowed up in the chaos. It was also thrilling – being on the frontlines of a major story. Damn….I love being a journalist.
At the end of the day – I fed-exed the raw footage to my station. I think I’m the first person in the newsroom to file anything.
Ok – so….did some major grocery shopping tonight – I can’t eat out for lunch everyday. Made dinner – thai green chili and garlic rice with tofu and mushrooms…..using leftover’s for tomorrow’s lunch.
