I just browsed the headlines on news.google.com….and read the headline: “Veteran newsreader Jennings dies”. I flipped on the news channels and found CNN had the only breaking news coverage as of 9:30 pm. I thought it was interesting that the first story I read about this event was on the BBC website.
Dead at 67…..died peaceful…..He told viewers he had lung cancer earlier this year.
Feelings – shock, sadness….and when I watched CNN’s re-broadcast of Jenning’s last words at the ABC…I teared up. Almost spilled over….He was always there – when I was growing up…earliest memories of television news. I admired his demanding style – no softball questions. I know journalists will honor him for his no-nonsense and tireless approach to world news and national issues. He’ll be a legend.
9:45 – CNN devoted a breaking news show to Jennings – they called in folks like Jim Bitterman – to go over memories of working with the Canadian-born news anchor.
10:00pm – KCAL 9 News did breaking news on his death….
CNN’s Larry King runs a Sept 2004 interview with Jennings
ABC has a video of Jenning’s parting words on his last newscast.
