Today, Luciano Pavarotti died.
As I was driving around, I had it tuned to 580 News and then I heard this wonderfully haunting song, “Nessun Dorma.” It’s an aria from the final act of Puccini’s opera Turandot and the 3 Tenors made it immortal.
The opera world has lost one of it’s greatest stars today.
I remember my dad blasting the 3 Tenor’s CD at home and in the car, as I was growing up. If the 3 Tenors was playing on the PBS station, my dad would have it on. Now, when I hear those amazing male voices, I remember home and being full of young ambition and hope. I remember when I was young enough to believe I could do anything. Now I’m grateful to my dad for giving me a love of classical music and the ear to recognize beautiful voices, like Pavarotti’s.
He was only 71 years old.
He is the reason why I started listening to the opera…we lost a great one.
pssst … “its” greatest stars … it’s = it is.
