Tim Russert passed away today.
Russert was recording voiceovers for Sunday’s “Meet the Press†broadcast when he collapsed, the network said.
He was only 58-years-old.
I saw Tim Russert speak at last year’s RTNDA/NAB Conference in Las Vegas. I took this picture as his program, ‘Meet the Press’ was being inducted into NAB’s Hall of Fame.
This guy really enjoyed being a broadcast journalist. It was wonderful to hear him talk about his experience in the news business. He knew how to ask the tough questions without getting nasty or sensational with his guests. I admired him for his tenacity as a reporter and his civility as a human being.
Today on MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell said he was “larger than life”. I also stumbled on this video from the Huffington Post – Mitchell ends up tearing up a bit as she remembered the Washington Bureau chief.
Both Mitchell and Keith Olbermann remembered one of Russert’s notable sayings: “Go get ’em!” They said this was his rally cry to reporters, producers and staff inside the D.C. newsroom. I’m sure they will still hear that phrase and his wise words as they continue to cover the Beltway.
