Typical. This story from the Topeka Capital Journal leads off with a sixteen yeard old who dreams about working on a science degree from Cal. She tells the reporter she knows the difference between science and religious theory. She said she’s worried Cal and other colleges will think she doesn’t know the difference.
Then we have a 12-year-old who thinks she’s getting science classes on intelligent design will prevent fights at her school.
Students, parents fret new standards 11/21/05
“Mekahla will be more prepared than students who only learn evolution,” said her mother, Michelle Peterson. “She can go anywhere she likes for college, but I would be very disappointed if she wanted to go to such a liberal school as U.C. Berkeley.”
I’m not quite sure how this poor girl will be more prepared when universities all over the nation may not accept her intelligent design classes as science. Shouldn’t parents want their kids to have a fighting chance when it comes to higher education?
On anothe Berkeley-related note….Go Bears! Cal won the Big Game on Saturday against Stanfurd. My dad won his bet at work! Yeah! (27-3). We tried catching the game at a few bars in Lawrence – but all we could get is that bottom-left-hand-corner score board. C’est la vie. I’m sure it was a cool game. Go Bears!
