I suppose I could never accuse my Daisy of being repressed. She has this way of letting us know exactly what she wants.
When she wants her belly rubbed, she shoots us sweetheart look and rolls on to her back. And when she needs to go to the bathroom, she nips at our feet, couch and eventually her leash. When she want to fall asleep on the couch, she hops on to one of laps and makers herself at home.
That’s Daisy.
Last week, we drove home from dog training. I ended up using over-microwaved hot dogs and pasta sauteed in garlic powder and butter. Our dog trainers recomended these items as “cookies” for training purposes. Daisy did fantastic in training that night. So, on the way home, she was chilling in the back seat as Miss Kitten’s Radio Caroline bumped along on the stereo.
When we got home, Mark was working. He had a drum and bass cd playing. Daisy hated it. She started barking at the Arabic voices accenting the dance beats. And behind our backs, she marched up a speaker and peed next to it. I suppose the music truly offended her.
I told a co-worker what happened and she told me to ask Daisy what type of puppy does she think she is when she could prefer music by a Miss Kitten over drum and bass.
That’s just Daisy.
Last night, we checked out the Texas Roadhouse. We had to wait a bit for a table - but we watched some Olympic luge and ice dancing at the bar. I think there’s a Texas Roadhouse just off of 101 - past the Monterey exit and before Pismo.
Waiters and bus boys break out into line dancing every now and then. Our server promised us the meat would fall of the ribs. She was right. It tasted so moist and the sauce had a great tangy note. I filled up on a Caesar salad before (a bland one…but it made me get some greens into my diet) - so I could only finsh a quarter of these ribs.
Texas Roadhouse is a fun spot - and the talking din couldn’t drown out our conversation. The prices were reasonable and the servers were friendly. It will satisfy your inner carnivore any day. I’d like to try the catfish entree next time.
I’m not the best dinner partner on Friday nights. I try to stay awake for most of the day….except for a short nap. That way I can fall asleep with Mark at night. But I was nodding off last night at the Texas Roadhouse. Such is life.
A few weeks ago, we checked out the Globe Indian restaurant in downtown. One of the photogs said it had a great lunch buffet. This place had a great selection of dishes. Service was a bit slow for the the small population of diners - but I think that’s because they didn’t have enough waiters working. The Spinich Paneer was quite tasty. The cheese had a nice chewy texture to sop up the greens.
Then my favorite dish - Chicken Tikki Masala. It’s a great introduction entree to Indian cuisine. Not as spicy as some places…A cheesy tomatoe sauce with the marinated chicken. I loved dipping the paneer nan (cheese bread) into the sauce….and both dishes were great as microwaved leftovers.
Overall - Globe Indian is a user-friendly spot - it’s a good idea for folks who haven’t tried Indian food. It has familar flavors integrated into complicated spices. If anyone wanted to go veggie in Topeka - Globe Indian has some fantastic choices for the hippie in all of us. It’s not gourmet (at least not with the dishes I’ve tried in California or London) - but it could become comfort food for me.

We visited the Bark Park earlier this week. I like taking her to the “big dog” area because the big dogs like to run around and play…more than the smal dogs. Besides, Daisy tends to be a bully with smaller dogs.

She met Scooby. According to her owner, Scooby weights 140 pounds and she likes playing with small dogs because she has some “puppy” in her. Daisy had a blast with Scooby. And Scooby was so gentle with Daisy. She didn’t mind when Daisy nipped ar her jowls. I love it when Daisy can play and be a dog without worrying about being on her best behavior for her humans….but it’s currently 7 degrees in Topeka now. It’s a little too cold for Bark Park today.

Well…our web editor at work wanted a picture of producers - in action. I’m a paranoid human being - and I figured snapping a picture of me “in action” would be super distracting. So I had this shot snapped before my morning show.
It’s the control room - the nerve center for my morning news show.
The headphones keep me connected to the show director, floor director and master control. I use another mic to stay in touch with the on-air folks. The monitors to my right show the videos cued up for stories. The little monitors behind me show what’s going over the air and what’s being broadcasted on ABC satellites.
This is me at my dream job - for better or worse…This is me before stressing out for the morning…This is where I want to be.
i still have my job…i must remember to count those blessings…
i am pooped again….
and i warned Mark that I’ll probably come home frustrated with work at least once a week…
On Thursday…after a smooth half-hour…somebody in the booth muttered something about getting promos for the show.
And at the beginning of the next hour of the show, the computer froze. The one that controled the video and the audio for the show. All hell broke loose. We couldn’t get audio back for the set or our video.
Mark said the folks on the set looked calm. It sounded muffled - but if he blasted the volume on the TV set at home, he could hear the on-air folks. Another co-worker said it was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
I had people freaking out in the booth and in the news room. But in the end, we pulled together and finished the show.
In the end…I stayed calm for folks in the newsroom and I didn’t bite anybody’s head off. I dealt with questions I couldn’t answer and juggled another teary breakdown just after the show. Apparently it’s my fault she got yelled at.
However, I know it’s not my fault. During the show, I kept repeating that phrase over and over to myself when I felt the pressure crushing my lungs.
Lessons learned…yeah…Scarlett O’Hara said it best: “Tomorrow is another day.”
And today - my show went off without problems.

I woke up when I heard the power drill whining outside. Construction workers are banging around and well…there’s not much I could do about it…I’m trying to fall asleep with the aide of some Starbucks liquor and Bailey’s. I’m getting a little mellow now.
I should have expected the insomnia. I also had a cup of coffee around 7 AM…just as I was wrapping up my show. I think the caffeine is still racing through my system.
Valentine’s was low-key, but lovely. Mark and I did sushi for a Valentine’s lunch. We did something splashier this weekend - a chocolate feast at a bed and breakfast in north Topeka. Each course was made with chocolate - from the pasta to the salad to the chili chicken….and so much for chocolate being an aphrodisiac. Everything taste so rich and decadent - that we fell asleep. “A little nap…” turned into a deep and restful eight hour sleep.
I need to relax.

My parents sent flowers to my office last week. It felt so lovely to feel their support from the other side of the country.

And Daisy chilled on the couch as a blogged for work. She managed to resist the urge to nip at the powerbook. Good dog!
I had a good conversation and all is well with the world.
TGIF! My weekend started at 7:30 AM today! Yeah! It feels like I got a three day weekend…
Daisy’s pooped after the dog park…such is life.
And this week has been thrilling, stressful, joyful and frustrating…
In fact…I kinda feel like doing what Daisy’s doing - just slumping over a chair…and not reacting to the construction outside. I’m tempted to crawl under the covers and hope the world forgets I exist. It’s just been one of those days.
I’m tired of biting my tounge and I’m tired of having a level head…hell I’m exhausted with supressing my own ego for the sake of the “team”. Sometimes I feel like I’m back in school - back when some students would pull my professor away from the edit rooms so that she could tell them how their make-up looked on camera. Priorities people….
No matter what…I want to be dealing with this stress…and not the hopeless frustration from a job I have no real passion for…but it would be nice to hear something along the lines of …we couldn’t do this with out you…I think I’ll still be waiting on that one.
Regardless…it’s old news by now…and so it doesn’t matter.

Our morning show launched today. Yeah!
I’m tired. I’m going to take my baby to the Bark Park.
And then I’m going to sleep.
I’m happy….and a bit drained.
