i guess the MPA wants to pull a Napster on all the cool sites out there that have searchable lyrics….I hope they don’t come after me!
Slashdot had a posting about this BBC reporting on how the Music Publisher’s Association now wants to crack down on all the websites running lyrics – searchable or otherwise.
” Sarah Faulder, chief executive of the Music Publishers Association, says that unless the websites have the permission of the copyright owners to display the lyrics (which most do not), they are breaking the law. “
Argh….it doesn’t seem fair. These sites are awsome, simply for the lyric finding service they provide….Instead of driving yourself crazy, trying to figure out what the singer was saying (slurred for artistic or drunk or high purposes) – there’s a resource out there that will set the record straight for you….kinda like using a dictionary to spell check stuff. These lyric sites have been around for quite some time. It seems obvious to me the MPA is riding the corporate band wagon to milk internet users for every penny, including what use to be a free service for looking up lyrics. I wonder if Christmas Carolers will have to start asking the MPA permission for singing tunes?
ok…and now there’s this huge fly zooming all over my office. i thought it was a bumble bee – but i think it’s just a fat fat fly.
