Last weekend, we jammed down to Oceanside for my Tita Irma’s b-day – plenty of eating and drinking….and eating again.

My Ate Ludette is all about yummy Filipino food. My mom warned us to eat a light breakfast in order to make room for her cooking.

Naturally…this is not South Beach friendly food….but she’s family. I didn’t want to disappoint family. I love her pansit. It chock full of yummy veggies. It has a great light, hearty taste. I managed to hold off on the rice and limit my carb in-take.

Here’s the gourmet goddess! She’s making my favorite Filipino cake. I think it’s a Gateau sans Rival. It’s served chilled. It has an incredible butter filling and I know it’s bad for me. My mom said this cake was on order…for someone other than me. Boy…I was bummed.

She had these mini bites of joy – instead. Same recipe as the cake, I think – just smaller. Mark loved these things. I managed to limit myself to three of them. The butter filling just tingles your mouth.

Most of the men chilled out here. It’s super-cool how they replaced the grass with this pink concrete patio thing. Mark got along well with my family. He said at one point, my dad started talking to him in Tagalog. I guess he was buzzed.

Here’s my mom, me, ninang nora and jen. I think I was the only female drinking. My mom wanted to know why my cheeks were so pink. I told her it was the weather.

Then we went further south to Chula Vista – to hang out with Mark’s cousin Dan and his wife, Alecia. They have a lovely home and they made a yummy Mexican dinner. I also asked Dan and Alecia for some advice on how to make a marriage work.
