When you get exit the 10 to Indian Hill Blvd – the street is lined with trees of purple flowers. I think they’re violets.
It felt like I was entering another world…
This is the exit I take when I’m heading to my new college radio station – KSPC 88.7FM. I started volunteering there on Monday. Today, I reviewed CD’s and Records for my practice tape. After I make the tape and get approved – I’m tossed onto the airwaves as a new DJ.
Unlike my Berkeley station – I don’t have to pay my dues with the 3-6AM shifts. That could have been a deal breaker. I think I’ll be slotted into the afternoon shifts, when everybody else has to work.
According to the station director – there’s a need for DJ’s, more than anything else.
The station is so clean and the Claremont campus is so pretty. I suppose I’m not used to volunteering at a station that’s not in a urban location – like KALX. Another plus – free parking!
I’m tempted to start up another public affairs program – a news magazine – something….But it wouldn’t be fair to the station – in the long run. I don’t know how long I’ll be in the area – and we’re taking off for our Mexican honeymoon at the end of August. So, I don’t think it would be cool to start up a program for just the summer….if I’m still around in the fall – I’ll toy with the idea for a bit.
Another thing I started up this week – kickboxing. Owwie – but cool. Instead of taking out the passive-agression from my un-employed ass – on to Mark – I can smack a boxing bag around for an hour or so. I signed up with the Red Dragon center on Arrow Highway. I also bought boxing gloves – but they needed to order my size. I have small hands. It felt great to be in a high-energy, high-impact class. The instructor, Carlos, motivated us and the music selection was invigorating.
So cool….
