Last Sunday night, John Cho delievered the key note address for the gala at Yank Sing in San Francisco. It’s the chapter’s 20th anniversary. We also have Pei-chun Liao in the picture. She’s the 10pm news anchor for KTSF – one of the few Chinese-language stations in the country. She had plenty of questions about our August wedding. She really wanted this pix with John Cho. She just watched Harold and Kumar and she thought it was really funny.
John Cho graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in English. He got his first break with the stage production of “The Woman Warrior” at Berkeley Rep. During his speech, he said his dad thought he wanted to be famous. So he recomended a career as a news anchor. Cho looked up at the AAJA journalists and said we would have made his parents proud.
It’s interesting to note that he said he feels a responsiblity to honestly portray Asian-American characters on the big screen. Before taking on a role in House, MD – he insisted on getting rid of the Asian-pidgen accents of the parents of his character.
When we took the picture – I told him I graduted from Berkeley and he gave me a “Go Bears.” Then he put his arm around me for the pix. Ah yeah!
