My entry for this week’s Travel Theme: Meeting Place.
I got a kick out of watching World Cup matches in Peru. I don’t speak Spanish. However- it seemed like all the sports networks generated so much analysis, commentary and chatter on every aspect of this international game. It sounded like they talked more about these matches than what I see and hear on American football.
Also, I had my fill of drama on the pitch. It was painful to watch Germany beat Team USA. It felt bizarre to cheer on Portugal, who helped us stay in the game.
More so-called “World Cups” spotted on our trip.
Silver cups inside Museo Larco.
The museum also has this amazing collection of ancient pottery pieces.
Cocktails at Rosa Nautica. Amazing view of surfers and waves crashing by the pier.
Dinner at Fiesta.
Day 53 of 100 Happy Days.
LIMA – We visited Pueblo Libre in Lima. We explored Pre-Columbian art at Museo Larco.
They had iPhones, right?
Another exhibition room highlighted Pre-Columbian erotic art.
Breastfeeding icons were tame compared to other works in this exhibit.
Also, I think the ladies behind the “Free the Nipple” campaign would protest having these icons categorized as “erotic” art.
Day 52 of 100 Happy Days.
It’s a challenging trip to do it without a tour company. But it’s doable. We had complete freedom over where we went and how long we lingered over the ruins.
Machu Picchu also left us breathless. Climbing stone stairs gave us one heck of a cardio workout. At 7,900 feet, the site is lower than Cusco. That means it was easier for us to breathe at Machu Picchu.
Day 49 of 100 Happy Days.
CUSCO, PERU – Plaza de Armas at night. It looks like a summer solstice fiesta with free concerts and crowds.
My entry for this week’s Travel Theme: Shine.
CUSCO, PERU – Travel buddies reunited! We hopped on a short flight to the Inca capital of Cusco.
A little bit of drama at Cusco’s airport. We couldn’t find our taxi driver from the hotel. Other drivers smelled an opportunity. Thanks to an Internet cafe inside the airport, we managed tracked down our driver.
LIMA – I’m quite happy that I packed my running shoes. I missed my happy post-workout glow.
Benches as works of art in Parque del Amour. It reminded me of the beautiful mosaic benches in Barcelona.
