ic Coventry reports: Man killed in Disneyland ride tragedy.
Yeah….well, the Thunder Mountain ride dates back 1979. So. Yeah. That sucks….
I use to work at Disneyland.
We had to go through Disney University – a 2 day program that orients us about the Magic Kingdom….someday, I’ll write a book on it all. I saw some crazy shit over there….I also worked as a trainer in outdoor vending – I advise you to avoid the churros and the frozen lemonquench….trust me.
So, at Disney U…we learned some nifty things….Walt Disney had a private apartment on Main Street, for his family. They would watch the parades from there…..he also had Club 33 – an exclusive $1000 membership club. The mayor of anaheim was royally pissed when he was denied access – he refused to pay club dues – thought he was above that since he was the mayor and all. Disney also had some interesting paintings in Club33 – several of them had peeping holes. He liked to do the peeping tom thing on his patrons. One of the girls from outdoor vending managed to snag a Club 33 waitress gig. One night, she raked in $200 in tips. It’s the only place in the park that allows “cast members” to recieve tips. At Disneyland – the area were the guests roam wild was considered “on stage” and the area for our break rooms and storage stuff was “off stage”.
The “profs” at Disney U – also stressed that this was the Magic Kingdom. It was the happiest place on earth and measures were taken to ensure that. The park is surrounded by high reaching foilage – just enough to shut out the sights and sounds of Katella Ave, the 5 Freeway, and the rest of the world. According to other cast members – nobody dies at Disneyland. Park officials would cart an injured/dying guest out of the park and onto the parking lot – so that they wouldn’t die on park grounds. Some cast members claimed they saw that happen.
So…if you go down there…do me a favor – be nice to the cast members, ok? They work there asses off to preserve this magic. Be especially nice to the characters – they get the most abuse. It’s amazing how cruel and vicious kids can be when they meet their cartoon heroes.
